I would direct the curator to the Grateful Dead forum , under the thread - Hey Hunter S . - , started on 6/29/10 .
Is it possible for you to contact me in that forum ? The thread will frame why . If not , this forum is fine . Thank - you .

edit - The other thread in that forum that pertains is , - An Interesting Image - begun on the same day .

We've had occasional bugs about reviews not showing up right away. Not sure how to fix it, unfortunately...they do eventually come up though.

I do not understand how my review of 3 - 24 - 90 , using the Charlie Miller source , caused the previous two reviews to also disappear .
Does this mean that if someone reviews a show , it can ' temporarily ' erase other reviews ?
For how long , generally .
Have you ever had many reviews disappear in the past ?
Thank - you for your help .

what's the exact url/identifier?

we switched to a fully "incremental" review add/change based backend
some time back to precisely avoid any problems like this
(blipping reviews inadvertently).

the most likely way reviews get "blipped" right now is someone does an item edit ("change files") and somehow tangles up the item (maybe rushing into edits before the item listing is ready?) and upon checkin/submit, nukes all reviews.

Tracey Pooh - I love the handle . Thanks for getting in touch .

I was the third reviewer for this show ,

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1990-03-24.sbd.miller.107873.flac16

It shows four reviews when you look at the show by year .

By year , this should have two reviews ,

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1985-06-25.mtx.seamons.kutik.106640.flac16

I hope I did not nuke all reviews . But why would there be a fourth one on my first example , when I was the third reviewer ? One thing in common is that I reviewed them all in the past few months .

T - On a separate matter I just discovered a forum that has me ill .

http://www.archive.org/details/iraq_middleeast

I am a firm believer in free speech and am not asking for any censorship . It's no longer the Iraq war but Chechnya , Afghanistan , Yemen and the Sudan . The videos are mostly jihadist propaganda , with many vids on " Allied " soldiers being killed . Is there someone I can correspond with to explore a way this forum could be presented more accurately ?

Thank-you for your help Tracey . Sean

ok both those shows are fixed.
this exposed a bug in some recent code changes we made for a larger system upgrade many months ago.
the data was present, but for various reasons, the reviews werent showable.

as for iraq middleeast this is
IMHO (and *only* my personal opinion and not the views of archive.org!)
you should know i'm apparently a much stronger proponent of free speech 8-)

not only do i think nearly all of those videos have a right to exist, but i think they should not be corralled into a presumed collection when it's very hard to know the context (w/o being fluent in arabic or otherwise). we haven't been putting items in "us colonialism" or "us empire" collections, so why should we put the flipside in a pen? anyway, you prolly see my point.

on the whole, our overarching archive.org policy is knowledge/info is power and should be free and made available. things we don't want in our active are things like: porn, snuff films, copyrighted materials.

there is a very fine line to be sure for war-related material or related content. it's a hard line to work out. consider what the US media has shown (or not shown) us over time during these 9 years of war/combat/invasion/aggression
(pick your side; pick your term). there's been an awful lot of exploding cities (recall the TV "shock and awe" blitz over and over here).

apologies if i'm presuming you might be from the US and/or have access to US based TV.

hope that all makes some sense and is not taken to be argumentative or "i am right or righter" -- these are just all my personal thoughts.

i am encouraged you are thoughtfully thinking about this material and have contacted us in an intelligent manner (you may or may not be surprised by how commonly we get pretty hateful posts, blanket condemning anything that remotely seems like it could relate to something islamic or mid-eastern!)

respectfully,
-tracey!

tracy, I am an American living near NYC, so I understand the POV.
I had an emotional reaction to that material when I saw it for the first time Monday. The 5 stars for good kills and the boasting about it on IA, my internet home, was overwhelming.
However , free speech comes with the sharp elbows and the bile (and worse). It's hard to take. But, it would be far worse to censor it .

Thank you for fixing the reviews.

What would be the easiest way to contact you or a curator if a glitch comes up ?

I consider IA a gift. There are so few places where unfettered speech is able to be expressed. Thanks. Sean

Hi Tracey - I mentioned this thread to another user who had the same problem. Any chance you could rescue the review(s) for http://www.archive.org/details/meatpuppets2010-08-27.ccm4.flac16 ? Thanks!

heya 8-)
but that item *is* showing a review -- and a scan of its history tasks (pretty new item) seem like there's only one review, no?
